Outstanding Achievements

Taipei City won first place in the “2017 Urban road maintenance and sidewalk environment accessibility assessment” by the Ministry of the Interior 5 consecutive times.

On December 27th, 2017, the Ministry of the Interior held the awarding ceremony for the “Urban road maintenance and sidewalk environment accessibility assessment in 2017”. Taipei City won special honors such as first place in the overall evaluation on “Municipalities”, first place on “Block Assessment for Municipalities”, and first place on “Policy Acts for Municipalities”, and second place on “Practical Acts for Sidewalk Environment in Municipalities”. This shows that in recent years, the city has taken the initiative to improve conservation and management of the roads and pedestrian environment.

The city has gradually improved its pedestrian environment by removing obstacles, cracking down on traffic irregularities, leveling the arcades, banning motorcycles in the arcades and improving other private spaces, public sidewalks and ramp roads. In recent years, in addition to forming partnerships with all pipeline units to jointly enhance the quality of urban road services, the city has also proactively promoted “people-oriented” pedestrian-free environments and the “sponge city” program to ease the heat island effect.

Rome was not built in a day. Road maintenance also needs to be conducted frequently on usual days. Only by effective management can the city provide citizens with a safe and convenient environment. This time, the city successfully passed the assessment again. In addition to affirmation of the city’s enthusiasm for providing services, this is also the great encouragement and glory for the maintenance staff at all levels of the city. The government will pursue to offer better services in the future and make persistent efforts to provide the public with a friendly and comfortable pedestrian environment to enjoy a better quality of life.
