Motorcycle ramp of Chongyang Bridge is to open to traffic from March 4, 2018

The Chongyang Bridge across Tamsui River, at Shilin District, Taipei City is a key route connecting the Shilin District and Sanchong District, New Taipei City. The existing motorcycle ramp suffers a high number of traffic accidents due to limited turning radius. The New Construction Office (NCO), Public Works Department, Taipei City Government has taken steps to improve its safety and comfort by expanding its width from 3m to 4m, turning radius from 6.5m to 25m, and speed limit from 15 km/h to 25 km/h by the "Shilin Chongyang Bridge motorcycle ramp turning radius expansion project" since 2016.

At a budget of TWD250 million, the NCO kicked off the Project in July 2016 to add a new motorcycle ramp, steel pedestrian bridge, and bike walking ramp (from Sanchong to Taipei City waterside bike route) as well as to change existing motorcycle ramp into an automotive passing bay ramp to make the most of total planning and effective resource utilization of the public works by the Taipei City Government.

The new motorcycle ramp and steel pedestrian bridge is now ready and scheduled to open to motorcyclists and pedestrians on March 4, 2018, while the work of modifying the existing ramp into a car passing bay will start in the near future. The bike walking ramp and waterside sidewalk bracket are targeted for completion in March 2018 and will be open to cyclists to connect to its counterpart on the Huanhe North Road to further ease biking convenience in between Taipei City and New Taipei City. The capability of sightseeing and refreshing the new sidewalk bracket may enhance use and overall aesthetics of waterside space.New motorcycle ramp at north side of Chongyang Bridge, photo 1
