“People-oriented, shaded and green” sidewalk expansion on Xinsheng South Road Sec. 3

The sidewalk expansion on Xinsheng South Road Sec. 3, Taipei City between Heping East Road and the main gate of National Taiwan University started on Aug 10 2015 and was completed on Jul 20 2016. In total 10,452m2 of sidewalks, including bike routes, were added or improved. Tree of various heights were planted for increased green coverage and the shaded landscaping, thus creating an obstacle-free living environment.

Considering the unloading needs for business along the section from Xinhai Road to the west side of NTU main gate and the occupation of one lane when buses park for passengers, 4 bus and truck unloading turnouts are added at Lane 52, between Lanes 56 and 60, and between Lanes 86 and 94 on Xinsheng South Road Sec. 3 for a total of 146m. These allow local businesses to unload their cargo and keep buses from occupying car lanes as they pull over into the turnouts. With these modifications, the traffic congestion of the 3-lane Xinsheng South Road Sec. 3 is improved.

The sidewalk expansion makes Xinsheng South Road Sec. 3 a demonstrational shaded boulevard in Taipei City. The New Construction Office still have several projects on design desk for more sidewalk expansion, bike route installation and intensification of road tree shading and green coverage for the improvement of overall environmental quality. Hopefully, citizens will appreciate and show their support, and join us to create the atmosphere that walking can be very enjoyable in Taipei.
