Taipei Municipal Neihu Junior High School Comprehensive Building New Construction Project
Established in 1968, Neihu Junior High School faced challenges due to aging facilities and insufficient floor area for students. As a result, the project involves the construction of specialized classrooms and a student activity center to better support educational and activity needs. In addition, an underground parking facility accessible to the public has been established to improve neighborhood parking conditions and enhance the living environment of the local community. Taking into account the conditions of the site and surrounding environment, the building mass was carefully arranged according to the platform height differences, adjacent road elevations, and the functional and spatial requirements of the school. By introducing functional spaces and employing techniques such as directionality, transitions, and light/shadow interplay, the design creates a captivating sequence of spatial experiences in a previously underutilized corner of the campus. The specialized classrooms feature void spaces and include large staircases and accessible ramps that connect to the upper-level outdoor sports platform. This area not only serves as a space for classes and relaxation, but also facilitates natural airflow. The elevated sports courts, performance space, central courtyard, and lawn with large trees are linked together to form a sequence of activity spaces.
