    "title": "Gongguan Roundabout Demolition and Underpass Filling Project",
    "Content": "Project Background:The Gongguan Roundabout is a gateway image marking entry from New Taipei into Taipei. Since the Gongguan Roundabout intersection ranked first among traffic accident hot spots for seven consecutive years, experts and scholars unanimously concluded that demolishing the roundabout would be most helpful in improving intersection safety.Preliminary works for the Gongguan Roundabout demolition, including fence installation, began on September 11, 2025. Formal construction commenced at 00:00 on September 13, 2025.Phase 1, expected to last a total of 44 days, involved layered filling of the pedestrian underpass and the vehicular underpass, while utility agencies simultaneously carried out lowering and burial works for water, power, and telecommunications lines. It also included demolition of the reinforced concrete guardrails, steel pipe railings, and street lighting equipment along the approach sections. After completion, a temporary asphalt concrete surface and central median were installed. This phase was carried out mainly during daytime and nighttime off peak traffic periods. Construction vehicles were prohibited from entering or leaving the site during traffic peak hours, from 07:00 to 09:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00, in order to reduce traffic impacts, and no surface traffic lanes were occupied. After completion, a temporary asphalt concrete surface and central median were installed.Phase 2, expected to last 21 days, involved demolition of the above ground roundabout facilities and construction of the surface roadway, including demolition of the above ground structures within the roundabout, demolition of the rain shelter at the entrance of the north side pedestrian underpass, road milling and resurfacing, and installation of permanent pavement markings. This phase was carried out only at night, from 23:00 to 06:00, with only one outer lane of Roosevelt Road temporarily occupied at night, while all existing lanes remained open during the day.To reduce the impact of construction, the city government adopted multiple communication channels for traffic information, including installation of CMS changeable message signs, posting construction notices to nearby residences, placing notices on electronic bus stop display boards and inside bus cars, and broadcasting reminders through the Police Radio Station to help the public prepare in advance.Through the New Construction Office’s active rotating day and night work schedule and accelerated construction, this project opened the orthogonal roadway alignment to traffic on September 29, 2025. The original construction period had been set at 65 days, with an expected completion date of November 16, 2025. In fact, the project was completed on October 8, 2025, finishing 38 days ahead of schedule.",

    "title": "Demolition Project of the Xinsheng Heping Footbridge",
    "Content": "Project Background:　The Xinsheng Heping Footbridge had reached 42 years of service life, and its bridge piers and stairways had long occupied the street corner space at the intersection. Its large structure created blind spots for turning vehicles. In order to advance a people oriented transportation policy, improve the safety and comfort of pedestrian movement, and strengthen road safety at the intersection, the bridge was evaluated for demolition after reaching the end of its service life. The New Construction Office received approval from the city government on March 29, 2024, to proceed with the demolition. Before the demolition, communication with the public had been carried out continuously, and during the demolition period the contractor was also required to implement proper occupational safety measures.　Before construction, a briefing meeting was held on November 1, 2024. On November 4, 2024, the Department of Cultural Affairs accepted a citizen’s application for cultural heritage value assessment of the Xinsheng Heping Footbridge. On November 13, 2024, the Department of Cultural Affairs held an on site cultural heritage review meeting, where cultural heritage committee members listened to explanations from the applicant, the New Construction Office, and the Traffic Engineering Office. Supporters and opponents also expressed their views on site. On November 19, 2024, the Department of Cultural Affairs notified that the Xinsheng Heping Footbridge did not have the potential value of cultural heritage. That same evening, the New Construction Office initiated the traffic support works related to the footbridge demolition.　The Xinsheng Heping Footbridge demolition project began on November 4, 2024. The footbridge was demolished on November 19, 2024, and the project was completed on February 8, 2025. The project introduced the latest people oriented intersection design and carried out roadway reconstruction to protect pedestrian safety. The related measures are as follows:1. Full corner clearance at the intersection, with no piers or stairs affecting the sight lines of pedestrians and right turning vehicles.2. Setback of the pedestrian crosswalks, including curb ramps.3. Widening of the pedestrian crosswalks, with the existing 2 meter crosswalk on the west side unified to 3 meters in the future.4. Installation of refuge islands, guardrails at the intersection corners, and pedestrian signals on the median islands.5. Leading and early ending pedestrian signals, allowing drivers to notice pedestrians more easily and separating pedestrians and turning vehicles as much as possible.6. Technology based enforcement for failure to yield to pedestrians and running red lights.　The related intersection design measures shift pedestrian movement lines outward from the intersection, allowing vehicles, after turning, to observe more directly whether the intersection is clear and whether pedestrians are crossing. Refuge islands are also installed outside the pedestrian crossings at the heads of the central median islands, providing more buffer space for crossing pedestrians and reducing the risk of pedestrian collisions. Distinctive streetlights stand on the refuge islands, and prominent pavement markings have been added nearby to remind drivers to follow the on site traffic alignment. For the curb ramps connecting to the pedestrian crossings, a stamped concrete surface treatment has been applied to create a slip resistant finish with a texture as fine as brick paving. The selected colors also blend with the surrounding landscape, enhancing both visual quality and user experience.　At the newly completed Xinsheng Heping intersection, pedestrian guardrails have been installed at each chamfered corner to more effectively prevent vehicles from intruding into pedestrian waiting areas while turning, adding an extra layer of protection for pedestrians. Together with the many traffic circulation improvement measures implemented at this intersection, the project is expected to make pedestrian movement more convenient, comfortable, and safe. It is also hoped that feedback from road users after the intersection improvement will help further optimize traffic circulation at intersections across the city and move Taipei closer to its goal of becoming a people friendly city.　Regarding preservation of the historical memory of the Xinsheng Heping Footbridge, an interpretive plaque will in the future be installed at the entrance side of Daan Forest Park. In addition to introducing the historical development of the footbridge, it will also describe the role the bridge once played in connecting urban circulation routes and the story of how it retired after fulfilling its mission as the city developed a more people oriented environment. The plaque will also include a QR code so that the public can conveniently view images of the original bridge structure and traces of the city’s memory as shown in film and television works. ",

    "title": "New Construction of the Comprehensive Teaching Building at Taipei Municipal Da-An Vocational High School",
    "Content": "Project Background: The school was established in 1940. It is an outstanding urban industrial school with a long history of more than 80 years and is located in one of Taipei’s most culturally prominent educational districts. However, some of its school buildings had become more than 50 years old, and the shortage of student activity space had significantly affected school development, highlighting the urgency of constructing a new school building. The original school building on the site was the Lixue Building. A detailed structural seismic evaluation confirmed insufficient seismic coefficients and a relatively high chloride ion content in the building. The Taipei City Government therefore planned to redevelop the site into a multifunctional comprehensive teaching building.The new comprehensive teaching building is planned as a reinforced concrete structure with one basement level and five above ground floors. The project budget is approximately NT$577.54 million. Construction began on June 15, 2023, and was completed on December 16, 2025.In designing the building mass, the project introduced the concept of energy conservation and sustainability, integrated the original campus axis and natural environment, and adopted a floor plan with a central corridor and classrooms on both sides. A full height atrium was planned in the center to break away from the conventional square classroom layout. Folded wall forms were used to introduce natural ventilation and daylight, creating a diverse and interesting nonlinear learning space that stimulates students’ imagination and creativity in three dimensional space and enhances their enthusiasm and motivation for learning. The building mass design breaks away from the traditional framework of horizontal and vertical lines and transforms into a dynamic and fluid nonlinear form, enriching the façade and enhancing the identity and interest of the overall building and interior spaces, while responding to the educational goals of a vocational school.The space plan includes a spacious and modern automotive department training factory, professional training classrooms for the architecture and drafting departments, and faculty office space. The overall design is committed to creating teaching spaces that meet the needs of modern education, providing teachers and students with comfortable and safe learning spaces, a high quality and friendly working environment, sufficient daylight and ventilation, and well proportioned spaces with strong functional performance, thereby bringing new possibilities and vitality to educational architecture. It also provides some parking spaces for public use🚘, and includes wide pedestrian walkways, achieving the goal and vision of mutual prosperity and shared benefits between the school and the community. 💪   The landscape design🌿continues this spirit of creativity. Its open and transparent design not only provides spaces for teachers and students to rest and interact, but also combines stress relief and educational functions, emphasizing the integration and interaction of interior and exterior spaces and bringing nature into daily learning. The rooftop level also responds to the Taipei City Government’s policy of a Garden City by incorporating curved planting beds to soften the building’s lines and creating agricultural spaces for teaching and practical use. This allows students to learn about environmental sustainability and green living through enjoyable educational experiences, integrates sustainability into daily life, and creates a learning and living environment rich in humanistic character.This project adopts a nonlinear design that breaks through traditional frameworks. It was recognized by the National Golden Award of Architecture and received recognition in the Public Construction / Architectural Engineering Planning and Design Category at the 27th National Golden Award of Architecture.👍",

    "Content": "Project Background:Aging school buildings: Taipei Jingmei Girls High School was founded in 1962. Its aging school buildings could no longer meet teaching needs and had reached the end of their safe service life. A detailed seismic evaluation found that the buildings did not meet the required legal seismic standards, affecting user safety. In order to provide all teachers and students with a safe and comfortable teaching environment, and through the efforts of the Education Department and many local stakeholders, the school reconstruction plan was finally realized, giving the entire school a safe and worry free learning environment.Campus space revitalization: The project includes a swimming pool, performance hall, library, and regular classrooms. Through the shared use of certain spaces, the facilities provide flexible use for all teachers and students. An indoor tug of war training area is also included, offering the best training base for the internationally renowned tug of war champions.The site area is 45,259 square meters, with a total floor area of 25,659 square meters, comprising two buildings. The reconstruction budget is approximately NT$975,268,398. 🏫   This project was carried out in two phases:Comprehensive Building: Construction began on July 3, 2019, and was completed on June 30, 2023. It is a steel reinforced concrete structure with two basement levels, four above ground floors, and one rooftop structure level. It includes a swimming pool, performance hall, multifunction classrooms, teaching resource center, and regular classrooms. Through shared use of certain spaces, multifunction venues are made available for flexible use by all teachers and students. An indoor tug of war training area is also included, providing the best training base for the internationally acclaimed tug of war champions.Phase 2 Teaching Building: Construction began on July 21, 2023, and was completed on April 7, 2025. It is a reinforced concrete structure with two above ground floors and one rooftop structure level. It includes regular classrooms, a landscaped tennis court area, and a track and field running track.The project was designed with green building goals in mind🌳. It takes into account environmental factors such as sunlight, daylighting, wind direction, ventilation, rainfall, energy saving, waste reduction, environmentally friendly materials, green coverage ratio, and permeability. It also provides learning spaces that support the development of arts and humanities, diverse learning, second foreign languages, international exchange, service learning, and community care. The traditional three courtyard architectural layout of the school is preserved, while also meeting the needs of local residents for recreation and assembly refuge, thereby shaping a friendly relationship with the surrounding neighborhood🌻.",

    "Content": "In response to growing public demand for mortuary facilities in Taipei, the renovation project includes a Type-A hall, four Type-B halls, eight Type-C halls, four Type-D halls, a forensic autopsy room, a worship hall, a multi-functional space, a mortuary cabinet area, and a passage for deceased transportation. The project also involves moving parking facilities underground and internalizing public transportation routes. Comprehensive planning and assessments were conducted based on site characteristics and nearby traffic conditions, with special consideration for operational vehicles and short-distance ceremonial setup logistics. To ensure smooth traffic flow for mourning families, vehicles, and crematorium access, the project adopts a pedestrian–vehicle separation strategy.The building exterior is designed to break away from traditional stereotypes associated with mortuary architecture. Warm color tones were chosen to balance the functionality and sensitivity to users, mourners, and community perceptions. The design is harmonized with the existing structure (the Jingyang Building Phase I) and the surrounding environment to create a unified visual identity.Completed on February 29, 2024, this facility now serves as Taipei’s primary venue for mourning services, fulfilling the city’s comprehensive life-cycle service needs—from birth and aging to illness and death—helping to bring dignity and completeness to the final chapter of life.",

In addition, an underground parking facility accessible to the public has been established to improve neighborhood parking conditions and enhance the living environment of the local community.Taking into account the conditions of the site and surrounding environment, the building mass was carefully arranged according to the platform height differences, adjacent road elevations, and the functional and spatial requirements of the school. By introducing functional spaces and employing techniques such as directionality, transitions, and light/shadow interplay, the design creates a captivating sequence of spatial experiences in a previously underutilized corner of the campus.The specialized classrooms feature void spaces and include large staircases and accessible ramps that connect to the upper-level outdoor sports platform. This area not only serves as a space for classes and relaxation, but also facilitates natural airflow. The elevated sports courts, performance space, central courtyard, and lawn with large trees are linked together to form a sequence of activity spaces.",

    "Content": "The Nangang Multilevel Connectivity Platform consists of a steel arch bridge and a large plaza. The main bridge connects the second-floor corridor of the Global One development on the north end to the park platform on the south. A secondary bridge extends eastward from the side of the main bridge to connect with the Nangang Station BOT building. The bridge spans approximately 95 meters in length, 7.5 meters in height, and 4.5 meters in width. Its curved design enhances the urban landscape, complements the architectural color scheme of the Nangang District, and integrates harmoniously with the local character while maintaining a distinct identity. The platform connects with the surrounding landscape, guiding pedestrian flow to the park near the Taipei Music Center. The semi-outdoor space beneath connects to the plaza at Section 7 of Zhongxiao East Road and can function as a covered playground, marketplace, or venue for festivals and celebrations. It also provides flexible space to support large-scale events at the Taipei Music Center, helping to boost local commercial activity. By establishing the core platform of the west-side multilevel connectivity system at Nangang Station, the project links elevated pedestrian pathways with ground-level activities, enhancing interaction between the two. Meanwhile, it contributes to shaping the section of Civic Boulevard in Nangang into a symbolic city green corridor. It aims to become one of Taipei’s most desirable, tree-lined, people-oriented leisure streets and a model of resilient urban space, offering citizens a more comfortable and pedestrian-friendly environment.",

In addition to the use of permeable pavements and sunken green spaces, the design incorporates scenic lighting elements to evoke the historic image of the Liugong Canal, creating a pedestrian plaza that is people-centric, resilient, and intellectually engaging, thereby improving the overall pedestrian environment.",
