A Bright New Look for Heping High School Groundbreaking Ceremony for the New Construction of the Heping High School Building on April 17

In the morning of April 17, 112, Mayor Chiang Wan-an officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new building of the Taipei Municipal Heping High School, and led the relevant staff to pray for the successful implementation of the construction project and the safe and smooth operations of the workers and the machinery.

Chi-lung Hsiao, Director of the New Construction Office (NCO), Public Works Department of the Taipei City Government, noted that the Taipei Municipal Heping High School was established in 1949 and is surrounded by Da An Elementary School and Fang He Junior High School, as well as being adjacent to quality tertiary institutions such as the National Taiwan University, National Taipei University of Education and the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, in an area with a high density of educational and cultural institutions. However, in recent years, deteriorating physical conditions such as aging school buildings, lack of indoor performance venues and insufficient space for student activities have greatly affected the development of school affairs, especially since some of the school buildings have reached 50 years of age, further highlighting the urgency of constructing new school buildings. With this in mind, the Taipei City Government has proposed a construction plan for a new school building, which includes a two-story underground public parking lot and a five-story above-ground school building, in the hopes of constructing a multi-functional complex that will serve as the foundation for the school's future campus master plan while also meeting the parking needs of the community.

Hsuan-tung Chu, head of the Zhongzheng Branch of the Public Works Section, NCO, explained that the project was commissioned to Chiu Y. C. Architect & Associates for design and supervision, with the school space incorporating the imagery of doves and peace. This is expected to echo the four axes desired of students of Heping High School, including "self-exploration," "caring for society," "international vision" and "lifelong learning." Various programs are also planned embodying this concept to nurture students to become "cross-disciplinary international talents." The new teaching building is expected to feature a library, multimedia classrooms, classrooms, administrative spaces, etc. for teaching and parking purposes. By providing students with a diversified learning environment through the diversity and variety of school spaces, the school will meet the needs of future school use and at the same time integrate design techniques that echo the environment, increasing airflow, lighting, and multi-level spaces to become a sustainable green building campus that is friendly to the environment, with the distinctive building design becoming the new core of the future campus.

Lastly, Chu pointed out that the project was awarded to Sansin Builders Co., Ltd.  on December 23, 2022 and construction began on March 29, 2023, with an expected construction period of 1,290 calendar days. It is expected that upon completion of the project, the school's educational vision will be realized, creating a new bright spot for education in Taipei City and promoting community development features, providing a quality, sustainable, friendly and safe teaching and activity space for all teachers, students and community residents.
