On August 23, 2024, Mayor Chiang Wan-An led relevant personnel and presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Taipei City Fire Department Dahu Station New Construction Project, located east of Dahu Park MRT Station, across from Dahu Park. The ceremony included prayers for the project's success, the safety of all workers, and the smooth operation of the machinery.
Currently, the Dahu Station of the Fire Department is at No. 5, Section 5, Chenggong Road, where it shares space with the Dahu Police Department, leading to overcrowding. Given the overcrowding situation and aging facilities, the Fire Department sought a new office. In 2010, Village Chief Hsieh Ming-I of Xiuhu Village initiated the project with the assistance of Legislator Huang Shan-Shan (then-council member) in coordinating. Later, council member Li Chien-Chang and Legislator Lin Kuo-Cheng (then-council member) conducted an on-site inspection. And through support and concerted efforts from Speaker Tai Hsi-Chin, Vice Speaker Yeh Lin-Chuan, and council members Yu Shu-Hui, Lin Yen-Feng, Chen Yu-Chen, Li Ming-Hsien, He Meng-Hua, Chueh Mei-Sha, Wang Hsiao-Wei, and Wu Shih-Cheng, a site adjacent to Dahu Park MRT Station was eventually finalized. The new building will address local needs, improve firefighter working conditions, and boost disaster response efficiency.
According to Hsiao Chih-Lung, Chief of the Public Works Section, New Construction Office, Public Works Bureau, Taipei City Government, W.Y Chen Architect & Associates is responsible for designing and overseeing the project. The building will be a reinforced concrete structure with five floors above ground and one below. It will be built to a seismic resistance to intensities of 1.5, which is higher than typical private buildings, ensuring it can effectively serve as a key force for disaster response and safeguard the safety and properties of citizens at all times. The design includes a band-like, uncovered sidewalk along the street, with layers of plants at the rear of the building on Lane 120, Dahu Shanzhuang Street, to improve the surrounding environment. Considering the connection between Section 5, Chenggong Road and the main road at the front, the layout of the building is planned by creating separate entrances and exits for the fire station, underground parking, and emergency vehicles. This setup allows firefighters to quickly mobilize for disaster response using fireman's poles at stairways from their respective dorms and standby areas on each floor.
Director Huang Chia-Wei of Nangang Branch, Public Works Section, New Construction Office noted that in regard to the building's appearance, the facade is inspired by the concept of a square exterior and a round interior. “Square” represents the strength and resilience of firefighters, while “round” reflects friendliness, care, and diversity, shown through the metal grille panels within the framework. The base of the facade and walls are primarily finished with raw concrete, complemented by colorful vertical metal sunshades, symbolizing the station’s commitment to safeguarding citizens and public order. In regard to energy efficiency, the design follows green building concepts, featuring sunshades on the exterior, solar panels on the roof, and a green roof to inhibit the transfer of heat by thermal radiation and lower indoor temperatures. The building has earned Green Building Candidate Certificate - Gold and Intelligent Building Candidate Certificate - Bronze.
Huang Chia-Wei added that the new building is essential for both the safety of firefighters and the quality of public service. Once completed, the modern and accessible fire station will offer an improved working environment and better emergency response capabilities, boosting firefighters' performance in disaster response and public service.
